Abstract: Tobacco use is increasing among young people and it is today by far the most popular form of smoking and is practiced by over one billion people in the majority of all human societies. A descriptive/ cross-sectional study was conducted on student in the Sulaimani City from the beginning of April, 2012 to the end of May, 2012. In order to describe the smoking habits among the students, a simple random sample of (194) students who have studded at middle and secondary schools in Sulaimani City were selected for the purpose of the study. The data were collected through the utilization of a constructed questionnaire, with three parts; the first part is concerned with student's demographical characteristic, the second part is concerned with smoking habits among students, and the third part is concerned with student's knowledge about smoking related diseases and its complication. The present study aims to assess students' knowledge about smoking habits in of Sulaimani governorate, and determine the relationship between this knowledge and some of the demographic characteristics of those students. The prevalence of smoking was 21.1% among the students; more than half of students have smoked in public place, male students smoked higher than female. Higher percentage in the age group (17-18) and higher percentage of smoker students have smoked less than 20 cigarettes per day. Peers and parents were the main reasons given by students for starting smoking. All students have a good knowledge about smoking related diseases and its complications. .The study recommended the urgent need for health awareness about the health damage caused by the habit of smoking among middle school students and high school alike, as well as the need to reduce smoking and students are busy with other school activities.

Pages: 10 - 29
Abstract: The preparation and characterization of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zr(IV), Ce(III) and UO2(II) chelates of diamino pyrimidine azo dyes were reported . The solid complexes were characterized by elemental analysis , thermal analysis and mass spectral measurements. The metal ligand ratio are found to be 1:1 chelates. The (M:L) complexes showed octahedral and distorted octahedral geometry around metal .The activation energy required for each step of energy required for each step of thermal degradion of the ligand, and chelates was calculates. The final decomposition products are found to be the corresponding metal or metal oxide
